Kuthetha Nathi is a registered non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development. We are constituted with three board members.
The organisation is chaired by Daniel Rabinowitz, a clinical psychologist. Our operations manager is Shev Segal, whom is a registered counsellor with the HPCSA and has extensive operational and management experience.
We currently have three community counsellors at our Cape Town Psychologists hub; and three community counsellors at our Sea Point High School hub with aims to open up more hubs nationally.
Check out who we are on our 'Our Team' Page.

South Africa faces a significant gap in mental health care due to a shortage of mental health professionals. Task-sharing is a new approach where trained non-specialist health workers provide basic mental health services, particularly for underserved communities. Task-sharing is accomplished by training and supervising community counsellors to provide mental health support. By delegating skills, a single registered therapist can extend their reach, significantly increasing access to mental health services.
One of the founding members, Daniel Rabinowitz - a clinical psychologist, recognised the limitations of reaching only a small number of clients individually. He explored the task-sharing model as a way to extend the reach of registered mental health providers. He started by supervising the first hub community counsellors from his practice in Sea Point.

At Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us, we envisage a network of sustainable hubs of quality mental health care, accessible to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic circumstances. Society is collaborative - we help one another for the common good.

At Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us, we are committed to developing a respected training framework that may equip and nurture community counsellors, guiding their efforts toward impactful community outreach. Through compassion, capacity-building, and connection, we aim to strengthen a network of care that reaches those most in need.

The Truck Model
The engine represents our board members. The operational manager sits in the driver's seat with her team in the back of the truck doing all the organising. The wheels of our truck represent where the main work actually happens - on the ground! The hubs of the wheels represent our important supervisors - registered professionals who supervise our community counsellors. There are approximately four to five counsellors for every one supervisor. These are represented by the spokes of the wheel. Each counsellor may see between one to three clients at any one time. The community is where the tyre hits the ground - these are the various communities that the hubs serve around the country.
