Imagine living in a South Africa where mental and emotional well-being isn't a privilege but rather is accessible to everyone.

At Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us, we're turning that vision into reality! South Africa faces a mental health crisis—millions struggle in silence, unable to access care.

The South African health care system is overwhelmed, with only 0.31 psychiatrists and 0.28 psychologists per 100,000 people*. But we refuse to accept that mental health support is out of reach!

Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us offers low-cost counselling sessions by trained lay counsellors from as little as R30 a session.

South Africa faces a significant gap in mental health care due to a shortage of mental health professionals. Task-sharing is a new approach where trained non-specialist health workers provide basic mental health services, particularly for underserved communities.

One of the founding members, Daniel Rabinowitz - clinical psychologist, recognised the limitations of reaching only a small number of clients individually. He explored the task-sharing model as a way to extend the reach of registered mental health providers.

Task-sharing is accomplished by training and supervising lay counsellors to provide mental health support. By delegating skills, a single registered therapist can extend their reach, significantly increasing access to mental health services.

Thus, the first supervision hub of Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us was established in Sea Point.
